The Aston Martin DB5 is a luxury GT sports car from British car manufacturer Aston Martin. It was produced as a coupé and convertible, and then as a limited edition hunting wagon by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring, succeeding the DB4 and preceding the DB6. It became one of the most famous and iconic cars in cinema as the first gadget car of the famous British secret agent James Bond 007 in 8 films of the saga: Goldfinger (1964), Operation Thunder (1965), GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Casino Royale (2006), Skyfall (2012), 007 Spectre (2015), and Dying Can Wait (2020).
Founded in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, Aston Martin was bought in 1947 by David Brown, an industrialist, whose initials were to become the brand’s “DB” models1,2.
David Brown developed luxury sports models in his own image. Until 1958, various models with names bearing his initials were produced in small series. These new models enjoyed an excellent reputation among wealthy enthusiasts.
Victories in motor racing and the launch of the Aston Martin DB4 reversed this trend. All that was missing was wider promotion to a wider audience, which Brown achieved with the DB52.
